Hirokazu Kore-eda and ‘Look Back’ cast attend Busan International Film Festival

Director Hirokazu Kore-eda and the cast of the live-action film ‘Look Back’ attended the 31st Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. The film, based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, was officially selected for the Gala Presentation section.

During the opening ceremony red carpet, director Kore-eda was joined by lead actresses Natsuki Deguchi and Ayaju Makita, along with cast members Furi Nanase and Rikka Okada. The event featured a surprise musical tribute to Kore-eda, which was met with applause from the audience.

At a press conference held at the Busan Cinema Center, Kore-eda discussed the motivation behind the adaptation, stating that the story, which explores the impulse of why one makes films, served as a reason for him to “re-examine filmmaking.” He also touched upon the technical aspects of the production, including the use of 35mm film and rotoscoping techniques to blend animation with live-action elements.
