Historical castles and fortifications in Poland

On the Eagle Nests Trail, which spans the Lesser Poland and Silesian provinces, the ruins of Rabsztyn Castle sit atop Krucza Skała. While the exact origins of the site remain uncertain, it likely began as a wooden fortification in the late 13th century. A stone structure and defensive tower were likely added during the reign of Casimir the Great to protect the border with Bohemia and nearby trade routes.

In Drohiczyn, the Castle Hill serves as a historical landmark overlooking the Bug River valley. Rather than featuring intact towers or grand halls, the site offers archaeological traces and an obelisk commemorating Polish independence. The location was once a significant early medieval stronghold and a 14th-century stone castle, though the fortification eventually fell due to war and erosion from the river.
