Historical sites in Slovakia and Czech Republic undergo major restoration
Several historical sites in Slovakia and the Czech Republic are undergoing or seeking significant restoration to boost tourism and preserve cultural heritage.
In Slovakia, the area surrounding Csonkavár Castle in Kráľovský Chmelec is set for renewal through the ‘Doors to Medzibodrožie’ cross-border project. This initiative, a collaboration between Kráľovský Chmelec and the Hungarian municipality of Cigánd, has a total budget of 320,000 EUR, with 256,000 EUR provided by the EU. The project, scheduled for completion by August 2028, includes reconstructing road networks, improving greenery, installing modern lighting, and creating new parking and visitor zones to better integrate the 16th-century site into the regional tourism offering.
In the Czech Republic, the Kyselka spa complex is seeking a massive investment of approximately one billion CZK to undergo a complete transformation. The non-profit organization Lázně Kyselka has applied for subsidies through the ‘Just Transition’ program to fund project documentation. The proposed revitalization aims to turn the devastated monument into a modern facility featuring accommodation, wellness services, and energy-efficient infrastructure. The project, which could take place between 2029 and 2034, is supported by the municipality of Kyselka, the city of Karlovy Vary, and Mattoni 1873.
