Hither Green station opens new footbridge as accessibility programme progresses
A new footbridge has opened at Hither Green station as part of a £28 million Access for All programme funded by the Department for Transport. The bridge links all platforms and marks a significant milestone in improving accessibility for Southeastern passengers.
Managed by Network Rail, the project aims to provide full step-free access from street level to all platforms by spring 2027. In addition to the footbridge, the programme includes the installation of four 16-person lifts, new staircases, and a link passageway between platforms 4 and 5. The upgrade will also feature new CCTV, public address systems, customer information screens, and Oyster card readers. Environmental efforts are also underway to restore the adjacent nature reserve through replanting to support biodiversity.
