Hitler Mussolini elected mayor of Queropalca, Peru
Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores, a 45-year-old candidate for the center-left Ahora Nación party, has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes. Flores secured 229 votes, representing approximately 34% of the total, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Gaspar Benilde Osorio Zambrano of the right-wing Renovación Popular Perú party, by 25 votes.
The election has drawn significant international attention due to Flores' names, which are shared with the 20th-century totalitarian dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. However, reports indicate that the name does not reflect his political ideology. Flores, who previously belonged to the right-wing Fuerza Popular, intends to focus his administration on public health, poverty reduction, and social justice.
This is not an isolated occurrence in Peru; several politicians have held office with names associated with historical figures. Previous examples include Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez, who served as mayor of Yúngar, and Hitler Saavedra Casternoque, who served in the Peruvian Congress.
