HMD launches AI-powered flip phone for seniors

HMD has introduced the 2660 Flip Senior Edition, a clamshell mobile device designed to combat loneliness among older adults through an integrated AI companion named Mary. Developed in collaboration with inTouch, the AI assistant is accessible via a dedicated button, allowing for voice-based interactions without the need for complex smartphone interfaces or app installations.

Mary is designed to provide 24/7 companionship, featuring a slower speaking pace, a gentle tone, and the ability to remember previous conversations to discuss life stories and memories. The service is available in four languages and is accessible in over 100 countries.

The device features a 2.8-inch screen, large buttons, and a physical design that avoids looking like medical equipment. In France, the limited edition is priced at €79.99, which includes five hours of conversation with Mary before a monthly subscription of €19.90 begins. In the United Kingdom, the device is priced at approximately £79.99, with a monthly subscription of roughly £16.90.
