HMD launch of AI-integrated senior flip phone
Overview
HMD has introduced the 2660 Flip Senior Edition, a 4G clamshell mobile device designed to assist older adults. Developed in collaboration with inTouch, the phone features an integrated AI companion named Mary, which is accessible via a dedicated button to allow for voice-based interactions without complex interfaces.
Mary is designed to provide 24/7 companionship using simplified language, a gentle tone, and a measured speaking pace. The assistant can also remember details from previous conversations to discuss life stories and memories. The service is available in four languages and is accessible in over 100 countries.
The hardware includes a 2.8-inch internal display, large physical buttons, and a design intended to avoid looking like medical equipment. In the United Kingdom, the device is priced at approximately £79.99, which includes five hours of use with the Mary AI assistant; subsequent access requires a monthly subscription of roughly £16.90. In France, a limited edition is priced at €79.99, with a monthly subscription of €19.90 following the initial five hours of service.
