HNK Zagreb announces new season of international theatre cooperation

The Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Zagreb has announced a new season focused on international cooperation and artistic exchange through the HNK2EU – Cycle of European Theatre in Zagreb. This initiative aims to position the theatre more prominently on the European stage by hosting renowned productions and facilitating artist exchanges.

Key upcoming events include a performance by the Ivan Vazov National Theatre from Sofia, directed by John Malkovich, and a visit from the Berliner Ensemble in October. Other international guests include the Slovenian Youth Theatre from Ljubljana and the Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica. Additionally, HNK is preparing an international co-production with several Slovenian theatres based on Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s television series, scheduled for a Zagreb premiere in February 2027.

The fourth Zagreb Opera Festival will take place from September 11 to 20, 2026, featuring various European opera houses, ensembles, and artists, including the Polish Royal Opera and the French Compagnie Minute Papillon.
