HNK Zagreb launches European theatre cycle featuring John Malkovich

The Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Zagreb is launching the ‘HNK2EU’ cycle, a series of European theatre performances designed to showcase acclaimed productions from across the continent. The initiative aims to position Zagreb as a significant center for European dramatic creativity and foster regular exchange between major theatrical institutions.

The cycle begins on September 4 with a production of George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Man and Superman’, directed by John Malkovich. This performance is a production from the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Future guest appearances in the 2026/2027 season include the Berliner Ensemble, performing the award-winning production ‘Displaced’ by Tene Štivičić. Other scheduled participants include the Slovensko mladinsko gledališče from Ljubljana and the Slovensko narodno gledališče Nova Gorica.
