Ho Chi Minh City advances Metro Line 2 construction

After five months of preparatory work, Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong) has entered the on‑site construction phase. The management authority (MAUR) and the main contractor joint venture began installing steel cages for the wall lining at two key underground stations, ST5 (Le Thi Rieng) and ST10 (Pham Van Bach), paving the way for the deployment of two tunnel‑boring machines (TBM) that will excavate the line’s underground sections.

Project leader Phan Cong Bang said, “We are focusing first on stations ST5 and ST10 because they will host the TBMs. So far the survey, design and initial works are essentially completed and progress is on schedule.” The civil works for the ST10 wall lining, about 534 m long, are expected to take six months. MAUR aims to have the TBMs ready for installation by the third quarter of 2027, with the full line slated for commercial operation by the end of 2030.

The VND 55 trillion project also emphasizes domestic content, targeting 30‑40 % local participation in construction, equipment supply and technology transfer. Authorities are coordinating traffic management and tree relocation to minimise disruption to residents and commuters during the construction period.
