Ho Chi Minh City advances transit-oriented urban development

Ho Chi Minh City is advancing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) through both government initiatives and private sector proposals. The city government has established a specialized advisory working group to unify the planning, mechanisms, and policies required for TOD implementation. Led by the Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Architecture, this 11-member group will focus on integrating the TOD model into the city's master plan and optimizing land use around metro lines.

In parallel, Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC, a member of THACO Group, has submitted a proposal to the city to research and organize TOD planning along key metro routes, specifically Metro Line 2 and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh line. The company, which serves as the EPC general contractor for the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section of Metro Line 2, has proposed developing TOD zones covering over 660 hectares across three strategic locations: the Thu Thiem station area, Tay Thanh, and the Tan Binh exhibition and sports center area. To support this, the company is collaborating with international consultant ARUP to assist with railway network planning and feasibility studies.
