Ho Chi Minh City to extend Metro Line 2 to Tay Ninh border
Ho Chi Minh City authorities have approved a plan to extend Metro Line 2 along National Highway 22 to the border of Tay Ninh Province. This extension aims to enhance regional connectivity and meet future urban transport demands. The project, proposed by Viet Him Lam Co., Ltd., will feature the metro line positioned in the center of the highway with parallel road lanes on both sides.
In conjunction with the railway expansion, the city is implementing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) models. A new resolution establishes guidelines for TOD areas, defined as a maximum 1,000m radius from station centers, including depots and surrounding zones. These urban planning measures allow for increased land-use coefficients and the optimization of underground spaces to boost land value and attract private investment.
Viet Him Lam is tasked with completing the feasibility study by October to facilitate appraisal. The city is also reviewing capital requirements and budget allocations for compensation and resettlement efforts.
