Ho Chi Minh City approves National Highway 1 expansion project

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have approved a component project to upgrade and expand a 9.6km section of National Highway 1. The stretch runs from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to the former Long An provincial border, now identified as Le Kha Phieu Street.

The project will be implemented via a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract. Once completed, the highway will be expanded to a cross-section of 60 meters, accommodating 10 to 12 lanes. The main route will consist of 8 lanes, while the section from the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway to the Tay Ninh border will feature 6 lanes. A 4-lane parallel road will also be constructed.

Key infrastructure elements include the construction of a new 6-lane unit for Binh Dien Bridge and five grade-separated interchanges at intersections with Kinh Duong Vuong, Tan Kien, Binh Thuan, Doan Nguyen Tuan, and the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. Additionally, six new pedestrian bridges will be built. This expansion is part of a larger network of ten high-speed routes designed to improve connectivity between the city center and regional expressways and ring roads.
