Ho Chi Minh City attracts $10 bn FDI as Vietcombank Tower anchors push to become an international financial hub

Ho Chi Minh City has secured nearly $10 billion in foreign direct investment, shifting focus to high‑quality capital in sectors such as high‑tech, digital transformation, logistics, finance, innovation and green growth. In the first seven months of the year the city approved 34,096 new enterprises with a total registered capital of VND 225,883 billion, a 22.8% rise in firm count and 38.6% increase in capital. Industrial production rose 10.7% year‑on‑year, driven by manufacturing, with key industries like pharmaceuticals, machinery, food and electronics posting double‑digit growth. Retail sales and services grew 13.3%, while state budget revenue reached VND 570,442 billion, 19.6% higher than the same period last year. Public investment disbursement hit VND 57,000 billion, covering 39.2% of the city’s planned spending.

The 206‑metre Vietcombank Tower, designed by architect César Pelli, has become a landmark of the city’s skyline and a symbol of its ambition to evolve into a regional financial centre. The tower’s distinctive crown, inspired by the Hùng King’s hat, reflects a blend of modern architecture and cultural heritage. Situated opposite the developing Thủ Thiêm district, the tower marks the city’s broader plan to create an international financial hub in the coming decade.
