Ho Chi Minh City constructing massive three-tier An Phu Interchange

Ho Chi Minh City is constructing the An Phu Interchange, a massive three-tier transportation hub located at the eastern gateway of the city. The project, approved in March 2022 with an investment exceeding 3,408 billion VND, aims to reorganize major traffic flows in a high-volume area.

The complex infrastructure includes six overpass branches, two canal bridges, and two underpasses. Specifically, the underpass system will connect the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Boulevard. The design also features the Ba Dat and Giong Ong To bridges, along with pedestrian bridges and technical infrastructure.

The primary goal is to separate straight-moving traffic from turning vehicles to reduce conflicts at the roundabout. Once completed, the interchange is expected to significantly improve vehicle movement through the eastern gateway, particularly for traffic originating from Cat Lai Port. As of August 2026, construction progress reached approximately 75%. While the project is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027, some components face delays due to pending land handover, which is scheduled to be resolved by late 2026.
