Ho Chi Minh City directs use of public land to expand hospitals

Ho Chi Minh City officials have directed that public land must not be left vacant or wasted while medical facilities, particularly terminal-stage hospitals, face severe overcrowding. During a survey of medical headquarters expansion on September 24, Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, emphasized the need to immediately allocate and renovate surplus land to meet public healthcare demands.

Major facilities, including Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital, and University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City, reported that limited land availability has prevented expansion despite rising patient numbers. To address urgent needs, the city has allocated a 6,000m2 site at 1 Dang Thai Than to University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City. The hospital plans to use the site for outpatient services before renovating it to house additional specialized departments.
