Ho Chi Minh City holds memorial for 1968 war heroes at Lê Thị Riêng Park

On 14 June 2026, the Buddhist Sangha of Ho Chi Minh City, together with city authorities, organised a solemn memorial ceremony at Lê Thị Riêng Park, the former Đô Thành cemetery. The event honoured the soldiers, civilians and community members who fell during the 1968 Mậu Thân campaign.

Senior monks—including Hòa thượng Thích Thiện Nhơn and Thích Lệ Trang—led incense offering, chanting and prayers, while Lieutenant General Trần Chí Tâm, Party official Nguyễn Phước Lộc and other dignitaries attended. Veterans and families of the deceased also participated.

The ceremony underscored ongoing efforts by the city’s command to locate and exhume mass burial sites from the 1968 offensive. Preliminary research indicates up to three collective graves containing roughly 900 bodies, and DNA testing is being used to identify unknown remains. The memorial serves both as a spiritual tribute and a reminder of the continuing search for the fallen heroes’ remains.
