Ho Chi Minh City infrastructure projects slowed by material shortages

The 77‑km coastal road linking Ho Chi Minh City and Lâm Đồng (DT994) is progressing slowly as contractors report a lack of building sand, stone and fill material. The project, split into five components and overseen by the city’s Department of Transport, has a total investment of over VND 7,000 trillion and aims for full completion by the end of 2026. While some sections have opened, many sections remain delayed because suppliers have limited material stocks and some landowners have not yet handed over sites.

Separately, the Rạch Đá Đỏ drainage improvement, a VND 86.7 billion scheme running parallel to Metro Line 1, is about 70‑80 % finished after roughly a year of work. Workers have been putting in overtime to clear the canal, build retaining walls and finish bank embankments so that water can flow freely from the eastern districts to the Saigon River. The project is expected to enhance flood‑risk management and urban appearance once fully completed.
