Ho Chi Minh City intensifies search for 1968 Tet Offensive martyrs
The Ho Chi Minh City Military Command has launched an initiative to locate and recover the remains of martyrs who died during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The operation involves inspecting, reviewing, and verifying information to find soldiers buried in the former Go Vap district.
Witness accounts suggest that approximately 100 officers and combatants were transported by military vehicles to be processed and buried in trenches along the road facing the former Co Loa Citadel, specifically in the area of the Martyrs Monument at 182 Nguyen Van Luong Street. Other remains may be located in old wells in the vicinity.
The fallen soldiers belonged to various regular forces and Saigon command units and died during attacks on strategic targets, including Tan Son Nhat Airport, the General Staff, and the Chu Ia and Cay Dua intersections. The Military Command is calling on veterans, historical witnesses, long-term residents, and family members to provide information regarding combat details, unit lists, and the specific locations of graves or trenches.
