Ho Chi Minh City launches water fireworks to mark 50th anniversary of Saigon‑Gia Định naming
On the night of 2 July, Ho Chi Minh City will stage a fireworks display to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city’s official renaming as Saigon‑Gia Định in honor of President Ho Chi Minh. The main showcase will be at the An Khánh tunnel on the Saigon River, where a new water‑fireworks effect will be used: shells are fired into the river, absorb water and then burst upward, creating a “light curtain” on the water surface. The display will be triggered automatically from a single command and will run for 15 minutes at 21:00.
The city has prepared 16 firing sites, including five high‑altitude points that combine low‑altitude fireworks. In total, 2 840 high‑altitude shells, 360 low‑altitude shells, about 1 200 high‑altitude rockets, 60 low‑altitude racks and more than 12 000 fireworks tubes will be launched across locations such as the new central city area, Tam Thắng Square, Cu Chi tunnels and Vinhomes Green Paradise.
