Ho Chi Minh City metro advances on Bến Thành–Cần Giờ and Tham Lương lines

Construction of the Bến Thành–Cần Giờ metro line in Ho Chi Minh City has moved beyond the initial earth‑moving phase. In Bình Khánh commune basic land‑clearing is complete, equipment and machinery have been positioned at the Rừng Sác junction, and drilling teams are surveying the entire route. A major depot at Cần Giờ is being prepared for train maintenance and operations control. The project’s largest bridge, spanning the Soài Rạp River, is under active work with large‑capacity cranes installing steel piles and bridge foundations; a second cable‑stayed bridge over the Tắc Ông Đĩa River is also under construction. The line, 53.8 km long, is funded by Vinspeed Joint Stock Company with an investment exceeding VND 102 trillion.

Meanwhile, the Bến Thành–Tham Lương metro line (line 2) is progressing on its underground stations Phạm Văn Bạch (S10) and Lê Thị Riêng (S5). Steel reinforcement cages are being lowered to depths of about 41 m and a 534 m long, 1.2 m thick concrete wall is being built. Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hoàng Nguyên Dinh urged contractors to accelerate work, targeting completion of the line by 2029—one year ahead of schedule—while noting constraints such as limited vehicle access for material delivery and insufficient waste‑soil storage. The city aims to have nearly 260 km of urban rail in operation by 2030.
