Ho Chi Minh City approves new metro route and Metro Line 2 contractor

Ho Chi Minh City has approved the route for a new metro line connecting Thu Dau Mot to the city center, spanning approximately 33.2 km with an estimated investment of 113 trillion VND. The project includes 24 stations, with 17.7 km of elevated tracks and 15.5 km of underground sections.

Regarding the existing Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) project, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has granted a construction permit to China Railway Sixth Group (CRSG). CRSG will serve as a subcontractor to the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC), which is part of a joint venture with THACO acting as the EPC main contractor for the 55,179 billion VND project.

CRSG is tasked with several key components of Metro Line 2, including tunneling between specific stations, excavation, retaining walls, viaducts, the depot area, and track installation. To support the project, the main contractor is also utilizing the Vietnamese subcontractor Hoa Thinh Investment and Development Co., Ltd.

In preparation for the Metro Line 2 construction, traffic adjustments are being implemented in central Ho Chi Minh City. Starting October 10, certain sections of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Cach Mang Thang 8 streets will become one-way to facilitate construction activities.
