Saigon River pedestrian bridge steel structure launched for transport

The 3,400-ton steel structure for the Saigon River pedestrian bridge has been successfully launched onto a barge for transport to central Ho Chi Minh City. The operation, which took place during the night of October 15, involved specialized heavy-duty multi-axle transport vehicles (SPMT) to move the 187-meter-long, 20-meter-high steel arch from the Dai Dung Factory shipyard.

Engineers closely monitored the barge's balance and inclination throughout the process, using automated ballast systems to maintain stability as the massive load was transferred. The structure is now scheduled to undergo a 124 km waterway journey to its installation site, which will connect Ben Bach Dang Park with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have directed that the main bridge construction must be completed by December 31, 2026. The project, fully funded by Nutifood, is a 720-meter-long pedestrian bridge featuring a cable-stayed arch design inspired by the shape of water coconut leaves.
