Saigon River pedestrian bridge reaches major milestone with steel arch connection

The pedestrian bridge spanning the Saigon River, connecting Ben Bach Dang Park to the Thu Thiem New Urban Area, successfully completed its main arch connection (hợp long) on the morning of October 21.

The project features a distinctive steel arch designed in the shape of a water coconut leaf. The central structure, weighing approximately 3,400 tons, includes a 187-meter-long main arch and a specialized support frame. To facilitate the connection, the massive structure was towed 124 km from Dong Xuyen Port in Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh City via barge and tugboats.

Construction involved complex technical maneuvers, including using hydraulic jacks and multi-axle SPMT vehicles to precisely align the structure within a narrow margin of error. The project is entirely funded by Nutifood, which aims to provide a new public space and architectural landmark for residents and tourists. Following the successful connection, workers will proceed with welding and final inspections before the bridge is officially opened to the public.
