Ho Chi Minh City proposes nearly 700 km of new ring roads

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has proposed the addition of two major ring road systems to the city’s master plan for the 2025–2050 period. The proposal includes Ring Road 4.5, spanning approximately 192 km, and Ring Road 5, which could reach lengths of 440 to 487 km. These projects aim to enhance regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region, the South Central Coast, and the Central Highlands.

Ring Road 4.5 is envisioned as a high-speed urban axis with 8 lanes and speeds of 80–100 km/h, utilizing existing National Highways 56 and 56B. Ring Road 5 is proposed as an urban expressway with 6–8 lanes, designed to facilitate the movement of urban, industrial, and logistics sectors. The Department has requested feedback from the construction departments of Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, and Lam Dong provinces to ensure synchronized regional planning.

In a related development regarding infrastructure progress, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City reported positive trends in land clearance and compensation for several key projects during the first eight months of 2026. This includes progress on expressways connecting the city to Long Thanh, Moc Bai, and Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh, as well as the Ring Road 4 project.
