Ho Chi Minh City reassigns 2,462 school managers to teaching roles
Ho Chi Minh City has completed a significant restructuring of its public school network, resulting in a reduction of 702 public educational institutions compared to July 2025. The consolidation has led to a 46.7% decrease in school management positions, dropping from 5,874 to 3,129 individuals.
As a result of these changes, 2,462 former principals and vice-principals have been reassigned to teaching roles that align with their professional training and educational levels. The restructuring affected various levels of education, with the largest reductions occurring in primary schools (282 institutions) and preschools (268 institutions), followed by lower secondary schools (137 institutions).
The city has also expanded its multi-level school model, which now includes 44 institutions combining primary and lower secondary education to facilitate shared facilities and administration. Additionally, the vocational and continuing education center network was reorganized, merging 25 centers into 10 units. While legal and leadership transitions are 100% complete, the handover of financial and physical assets has reached 90.71%.
