Vietnam reports surge in respiratory infections and Influenza A
Health authorities in Vietnam are reporting a significant rise in acute respiratory infections and influenza cases across several major cities. In Ho Chi Minh City, the number of respiratory cases increased by over 64% in a single week, reaching 34,664 cases. Testing indicates that Influenza A, specifically the H1N1 strain, is the dominant pathogen, accounting for nearly 77% of positive samples.
In Hanoi, medical facilities are seeing between 200 and 300 influenza patients per week, with pediatric wards reporting high numbers of children requiring hospitalization. Similarly, in Dak Lak, hospitals are managing an influx of children with seasonal flu.
Medical professionals warn that influenza can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia and respiratory failure. High-risk groups include the elderly, young children, and individuals with underlying conditions such as COPD, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. Doctors emphasize that a lack of high fever does not rule out severe illness, as the virus can cause significant respiratory damage even with mild initial symptoms.
