Ho Chi Minh City seeks public input on metro line and station names

The Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute and the city's metro management authority (MAUR) have launched a survey to collect resident opinions on naming the city's urban rail lines and stations. The aim is to create a naming system that is easy to recognise, pronounce and remember for both Vietnamese and foreign users, while reducing confusion caused by overlapping or ambiguous names.

Survey participants are asked to evaluate current station names on Line 1 (Ben Thanh‑Suoi Tien), which began operation at the end of 2024, and to propose naming principles for future lines such as Ben Thanh‑Tham Luong, Ben Thanh‑Thu Thiem and Ben Thanh‑Can Gio. Options include numeric designations, colour codes, endpoint‑based names or combinations, as well as criteria reflecting local landmarks, historical figures or commercial sponsorship. The broader plan targets 200 km of metro by 2030 and a fully integrated network by 2045.
