Ho Chi Minh City targets 15-20% public transport usage by 2030

Ho Chi Minh City has launched an emulation movement for the 2026-2030 period to increase public transport usage to 15-20% of urban travel demand by 2030. The plan, issued by the City People's Committee, includes leveraging Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to enhance passenger capacity.

Key objectives include transitioning to green energy, with a goal for 100% of inner-city buses to use electricity or green energy by 2027, and all buses and taxis to follow suit before 2030. The city also aims for a cashless payment rate exceeding 95% in public transport and 100% electronic verification via the MultiGo digital platform.

To support these goals, the city will encourage administrative agencies and public service units to participate, with a target of over 80% of officials and employees committing to using public transport at least twice a week. Passenger satisfaction is targeted at over 85%, with on-time departure rates exceeding 95%.
