Ho Chi Minh City targets net-zero emissions by 2045

Ho Chi Minh City has introduced a draft action program aimed at achieving net-zero emissions and establishing a clean, healthy living environment by 2045. The plan focuses on resolving major environmental hotspots by 2030 through strengthened governance and proactive climate change responses.

The draft outlines 18 specific targets across six key areas: pollution control, nature conservation, disaster prevention, greenhouse gas reduction, green growth, and financial resource allocation for environmental protection. Notably, the city aims to exceed national benchmarks for solid waste management, targeting a 100 percent collection and treatment rate for household waste in both urban and rural areas, while limiting direct landfilling to below 10 percent.

The strategy is built upon three pillars: addressing immediate issues like air and waterway pollution, adapting to climate change to reduce disaster risks, and promoting a green transition through circular, low-carbon economies and digital transformation. Long-term goals also include the expansion of urban greenery and parks.
