Ho Chi Minh City accelerates public investment and smart city goals

Ho Chi Minh City is intensifying efforts to accelerate public investment disbursement to drive economic growth and infrastructure development. As of August 2026, the city achieved a disbursement rate of 57.7%, reaching 85,141 billion VND, which exceeds the national average of 49.8%. Despite this progress, 71 wards and communes have yet to meet required disbursement targets, prompting officials to demand increased speed to reach a 70% target by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

In terms of urban development, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council is set to consider investment policies for four renovation projects along the southern bank of the Kenh Doi canal. Additionally, the city is pursuing a long-term strategy to transform into a smart city by 2030, aiming to enter the top 50 smart cities globally. This roadmap focuses on transitioning from simple technology application to data-driven governance, utilizing artificial intelligence and digital twins to optimize urban management and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses.
