Ho Chi Minh City is aiming to become one of the world's top 50 smart cities by 2030, according to officials at a recent urban development workshop. The city's strategic plan for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision extending to 2045, focuses on sustainable growth through a green model and data-driven urban governance.

By 2045, the city intends to reach the highest level of smart city maturity and establish itself as a leading center for science, technology, and innovation in the Asia-Pacific region. The implementation roadmap includes nine core principles, such as prioritizing citizens and businesses, utilizing data as a foundation, ensuring information security, and maintaining flexible, resource-appropriate deployment.
