Ho Chi Minh City to fully subsidize health insurance for students

For the 2026-2027 academic year, Ho Chi Minh City will provide 100% support for health insurance premiums for all general education students, including those in both public and private schools, as well as continuing education students at the lower and upper secondary levels. This policy, based on Resolution No. 56 of the City People's Council, aims to ensure universal health insurance coverage and reduce the financial burden on families.

In contrast, university students will receive a 50% subsidy from the state budget, with the remaining 50% to be paid by the students. Based on a reference level of 2.53 million VND per month, the monthly premium is calculated at 4.5%, resulting in a student contribution of approximately 56,925 VND per month after the subsidy.

Additionally, educational institutions are permitted to retain 5% of the collected health insurance funds to support primary healthcare services and health monitoring for students within schools. The city's budget is estimated to exceed 1,953 billion VND annually to implement these health insurance support policies.
