Ho Chi Minh City targets high growth through FDI and tourism

Ho Chi Minh City is positioning foreign relations and international integration as primary drivers for its next phase of economic growth. In the first seven months of 2026, the city attracted over $9.8 billion in foreign direct investment.

Tourism remains a vital sector, with international visitor numbers reaching 7.77 million between January and August. Tourism revenue for this period totaled nearly VND 259.7 trillion ($9.85 billion), representing a 48.8 percent increase compared to the previous year. To maintain this momentum, the city is preparing major events, including the 20th Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC 2026) and the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Week in December.

City leadership, including Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang and Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc, have emphasized a commitment to practical results and global integration. The city aims for double-digit growth in 2026 and beyond, focusing on transforming into a global urban center through enhanced connectivity and service development.
