Ho Chi Minh City traffic congestion rises due to Metro Line 2 construction

Ho Chi Minh City is experiencing significant traffic congestion across several major routes due to new traffic diversions and construction for Metro Line 2.

On Truong Chinh Street, particularly near the Pham Van Bach station construction site, heavy congestion has been reported at key intersections including the Cong Hoa junction. The narrowing of road surfaces to accommodate construction barriers has caused long queues of vehicles entering the city from the northwest. Authorities have attempted to mitigate this by temporarily opening an additional lane from the opposite direction.

At the Bay Hien intersection, the installation of median strips to facilitate metro station construction has disrupted the flow of traffic, leading to localized gridlock at the junction of Truong Chinh, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ly Thuong Kiet, and Hoang Van Thu streets.

Additionally, changes to traffic flow on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Cach Mang Thang Tam streets have caused confusion among drivers. Many commuters have struggled to adapt to new one-way directions and restricted turns, resulting in slow-moving traffic and increased pressure on surrounding roads like Vo Van Tan during peak hours.
