Hoc Mon wholesale market food safety inspection

A monitoring delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, led by Vice Chairman Huynh Thanh Nhan, conducted an inspection of food safety management at the Hoc Mon Agricultural and Food Wholesale Market on August 17.

The market serves as a critical supply hub, providing approximately 10% to 16% of the city's agricultural products and food, including 30% to 40% of its pork supply. The facility operates 24 hours a day, handling an average of 2,020 tons of goods every 24-hour period, including 360 tons of pork and 1,660 tons of vegetables and fruit. Approximately 10,000 vehicles enter the market daily for loading and unloading.

Reports indicate that 100% of business households within the market have obtained food safety certificates or signed required commitments. Recent testing of 120 samples for pesticide residues and growth stimulants, as well as 97 Salmonella tests conducted by merchants, showed no violations. Additionally, 25 internal rapid tests for substances such as borax and Clenbuterol also returned no violations.

Despite strict controls within the market, officials noted that 147 spontaneous business points surrounding the area continue to pose challenges regarding waste management and food safety.
