Hochtief secures £1.5 billion contract for UK's Sellafield nuclear site

German construction group Hochtief has secured a major long-term framework contract for the Sellafield nuclear site in the United Kingdom. The contract, awarded to its subsidiary Hochtief Infrastructure, is valued at up to 1.5 billion British pounds (approximately 1.75 billion euros).

The agreement covers the operation, maintenance, and further development of the site, which is the largest and most complex nuclear facility in the UK. The contract has a duration of up to 15 years, consisting of a nine-year base term and a six-year extension option. Hochtief will provide a variety of services, including installation, facility maintenance, and project management, much of which will take place in radiation-monitored environments.

Owned by the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Sellafield has not produced electricity since the decommissioning of the Calder Hall plant in 2003. Since 2022, the site has also ceased reprocessing nuclear fuel. Current operations at the facility are focused on the remediation and decommissioning of nuclear installations and the safe storage of nuclear waste.
