Bologna heating restrictions spark debate amid falling temperatures
The Municipality of Bologna has issued an ordinance prohibiting the activation of residential heating systems until November 1. This measure is part of the Integrated Regional Air Plan (PAIR 2030), designed to reduce pollutant emissions and improve air quality in the Emilia-Romagna region.
The policy has drawn criticism due to recent temperature drops, with nighttime lows reaching 8 degrees Celsius. Critics argue the delay creates a contradiction between environmental goals and the immediate comfort of citizens as homes begin to cool significantly.
The heating restriction is also cited as a compensatory measure by the Emilia-Romagna region following limitations placed on Euro 5 diesel vehicles.
