Homicide declines reported in El Salvador and Mexico in early 2026

El Salvador’s police statistics show a nationwide day with zero homicides on April 29, continuing a trend of reduced violence. April has recorded 27 days without homicides, underscoring the ongoing decrease in violence reported by authorities.

In Mexico, from January through March 2026, intentional homicides totaled 4,574, a 32.7% decrease from the same period in 2025 (6,804). The Secretaría de Seguridad also reported more than 49,000 arrests for high-impact crimes during the period, reflecting ongoing enforcement efforts.
