Homo Faber 2026 biennial opens in Venice

The fourth edition of the Homo Faber biennial, titled ‘An Island of Light’, is currently taking place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, the event celebrates international excellence in fine craftsmanship and design.

Artistic director Es Devlin has curated the exhibition, which features 15 installations. The event highlights the dialogue between traditional manual skills and contemporary design. Notable participants include the Italian furniture brand Giorgetti, which is showcasing its ‘Summa’ poufs within the Palladian Refectory to emphasize the quality of detailing and craftsmanship.

The biennial explores themes of authenticity and the role of the maker in an era of generative artificial intelligence, positioning the physical gesture of the artisan alongside evolving technological landscapes.
