Hon Khoai Island road project advances with Vietnam’s longest sea-crossing bridge

Construction is underway on the road to Hon Khoai Island, which features Vietnam’s longest sea-crossing bridge. The project, part of a national key infrastructure initiative, spans over 18 km with a total investment exceeding 25,700 billion VND.

Managed by Project Management Board 166 under the Ministry of National Defence, the construction is being directly executed by Corpus 12 of the Truong Son Construction Corporation. To date, the workforce includes over 1,000 personnel and 220 pieces of machinery. Progress reports indicate that 263 of 2,408 onshore bored piles and 157 of 2,210 offshore bored piles have been completed, alongside the pouring of 17 of 413 pier bases.

Despite meeting current schedules, the project faces significant challenges due to the marshy terrain, distance from material sources, labor shortages, and adverse weather conditions during the storm season. The road aims to connect a highway to the Hon Khoai seaport to support maritime economic development and national defense and security.
