Vietnam accelerates road, bridge, metro projects

Vietnam continues to fast‑track a wide range of large‑scale transport and urban‑infrastructure works. In Hanoi, the Phạm Tu‑Road 70 interchange—an outer‑ring traffic node—is ramping up construction to meet its late 2026 completion target. In the north, a major railway project connecting Lào Cai, Hà Nội, and Hải Phòng is undergoing budget adjustments, with a proposed increase of over 86 trillion VND to upgrade to double-track capacity and meet international standards. In Nghệ An, the Son Hai Group consortium has been awarded a contract exceeding 5,000 billion VND for a 60km section of the Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the restoration of the Red Canal (Rạch Đá Đỏ) adjacent to Metro Line 1 is nearing completion, aiming to improve the urban environment and drainage. In the Central Highlands, Gia Lai is prioritizing the connection of East-West corridors and airport upgrades to boost tourism.

Despite these infrastructure strides, environmental and regional challenges remain. In the Southeast, El Niño has caused water levels in the Dầu Tiếng reservoir to drop significantly, impacting regional water security. Other ongoing regional issues include the stalled Vỹ Dạ bridge expansion in Hue, land-ownership delays in Quảng Trị, and construction-related flooding in Thanh Hóa.
