Honda accelerates production of next-generation CR-V hybrid

Honda is accelerating its production timeline for the next-generation CR-V hybrid as part of a strategic shift toward electrified powertrains in North America. Following the cancellation of three electric vehicle projects, the company plans to begin manufacturing the new CR-V hybrid in Ontario, Canada, in February 2027, with production expanding to Indiana and Ohio shortly thereafter.

The new CR-V hybrid is expected to feature advanced technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency by over 10% while reducing production costs by more than 30%. This move comes amid rising demand for hybrid models in the US, where Honda's hybrid sales grew by 9% during the first eight months of the year.

Beyond the CR-V, Honda's broader strategy includes developing a premium Acura model based on the CR-V architecture and a large three-row hybrid SUV slated for 2029, which may utilize a V6 engine combined with a two-motor hybrid system. Globally, Honda aims to triple its hybrid output to 2.5 million vehicles annually by 2030, with production of models like the Avancier hybrid planned for Thailand and China, and the Vezel in Japan.
