Honda vehicle updates and platform development

Honda is updating its vehicle lineup through both immediate market releases and long-term platform development.

In Vietnam, the sixth-generation Honda CR-V has been introduced with updated design elements, such as a larger hexagonal grille and LED lighting. The local lineup consists of three locally assembled gasoline versions with seven seats and one hybrid version imported from Thailand with five seats. Interior upgrades include digital displays, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Bose sound system.

Looking toward 2027 and beyond, Honda is developing a new hybrid and lightweight mid-size platform. This architecture is intended to support various models, including a potential next-generation Civic and a possible return of the Crosstour, which internal documents reportedly refer to as an ‘Accord SUV’. While Honda has confirmed a substantial redesign for the future Accord to emphasize sportiness, official details on body style and pricing are unconfirmed.

Newer details indicate the next-generation Civic and Accord are expected to debut around 2027 or 2028, utilizing the new platform to improve fuel efficiency by approximately 10%. The Civic may feature a lighter platform, potentially reducing weight by up to 200 pounds while offering all-wheel drive capabilities. The Accord redesign is expected to shift toward a sporty fastback silhouette and will incorporate ‘S+ Shift’ technology, which uses motor sound and torque mapping to simulate manual gear shifts.

The new platform is expected to offer all-wheel drive capabilities, though analysts note that Honda may face competition from manufacturers offering more plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle options by 2029.
