Honda and Uber Eats to test motorcycle safety app in Japan

Honda and Uber Eats Japan are launching a joint demonstration project in September 2026 to test a motorcycle safe driving diagnosis app. The month-long nationwide trial in Japan will involve approximately 1,500 Uber Eats delivery partners.

The app utilizes smartphone sensor data to analyze complex motorcycle behaviors, such as acceleration, braking, and steering, without requiring specialized hardware. By incorporating expertise from professional instructors and test riders into its algorithms, the technology aims to visualize driving habits as a “safe driving score.” This allows riders to identify personal weaknesses or tendencies they might not otherwise notice.

This initiative is part of Honda’s broader goal to halve traffic fatalities involving its vehicles by 2030 and reach zero fatalities by 2050. The project seeks to evolve safety education from traditional instruction to a data-driven approach that encourages behavioral changes through visual feedback and potential incentives.
