Honda announces new ‘Honda Hybrid’ technology for 2027
Honda has announced that its next generation of hybrid technology will be branded as ‘Honda Hybrid,’ replacing the ‘e:HEV’ name used since 2020. The new system is scheduled to debut in 2027 and will be implemented across 15 new models by March 2030, with a primary focus on the North American market.
The new generation aims to improve fuel efficiency by more than 10% and reduce system costs by 30% compared to the 2023 hybrid models. Technical advancements include an evolved combustion engine, improved traction units, and updated control software. The vehicles will utilize a new, lighter platform designed with controlled body flexibility to enhance handling in curves. Additionally, Honda is introducing an electric all-wheel-drive system called ‘e-AWD’ and a ‘Motion Management System’ to integrate vehicle movement control.
This strategic shift follows Honda’s May decision to reallocate resources from fully electric vehicle development toward hybrid technology in response to rising consumer demand. The luxury division, Acura, will also adopt the new system. In Brazil, Honda is investing R$ 4.2 billion in its Itirapina plant through 2030, which includes the development of a flex-fuel hybrid capable of running on ethanol.
