Honda delays North American production of next-generation CR-V hybrids

Honda is delaying the large-scale production of its next-generation hybrid vehicles in North America. The delays specifically impact the hybrid version of the CR-V SUV, a key model for the company.

In Canada, production originally slated for February is now expected to begin in April or later. In the United States, manufacturing at plants in Ohio and Indiana, which was scheduled to start in March, is now delayed until at least May. While the specific reasons for the postponement have not been officially confirmed, a company representative noted that production plans are typically determined by factors such as parts supply and demand.

The shift comes as demand for hybrid vehicles grows in the United States. Honda recently reported a 9.3% increase in U.S. new vehicle sales for the July-September quarter, driven largely by hybrid interest. Additionally, the company is adjusting its broader strategy, having previously canceled the development of three electric vehicle models for the North American market.
