Honda develops new hybrid platform for future Accord and Crosstour models
Honda is developing a new hybrid platform and a lighter mid-size platform intended for vehicles arriving from 2027 onward. This new architecture will support various models, including a potential next-generation Civic and a possible return of the Crosstour, which internal documents reportedly refer to as an ‘Accord SUV’.
While digital renderings of a sportier, fastback-style Honda Accord have circulated online, these are independent artistic interpretations and not official leaks or factory designs. Honda has confirmed that the future Accord will undergo a substantial redesign with an increased emphasis on sportiness, but official details regarding body style, horsepower, and pricing remain unconfirmed.
The upcoming platform is expected to offer all-wheel drive (AWD) capabilities. However, industry analysis suggests that by the projected 2029 production window for some models, Honda's reliance on this specific hybrid platform may face stiff competition from manufacturers offering a broader range of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains.
