Honda plans $2.5 billion hybrid vehicle plant in Ohio

Honda is in final negotiations to construct a new hybrid vehicle assembly plant in Ohio, United States. The project involves an estimated investment of approximately 300 billion to 400 billion yen (roughly $2.5 billion) with a target production start date in 2030.

The facility is intended to increase Honda’s North American production capacity by about 10 percent, aiming for an annual output of 2 million vehicles. This expansion responds to rising demand for fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles in the North American market. The move is also seen as a strategy to mitigate risks associated with U.S. tariff policies by increasing domestic production.

Reports suggest the plant could produce three major models, including the next-generation Acura MDX and two additional large three-row SUVs for the Acura and Honda brands. The site's location in central Ohio provides proximity to an established supplier base. While negotiations with the state government regarding subsidies are ongoing, the plant would represent Honda’s fifth manufacturing facility in the United States.
