Honda announces next-generation hybrid technology and Super-ONE EV

Honda has announced a major strategic shift toward hybrid technology, rebranding its next-generation system as ‘Honda Hybrid’. Replacing the current e:HEV branding, this new system is expected to roll out globally starting in 2027. The company plans to introduce 15 models equipped with this technology by the end of fiscal year 2030, with key models like the CR-V and HR-V expected to be among the first to adopt it.

The new hybrid system aims to improve fuel efficiency by over 10 percent compared to previous generations through optimized engine operation and a more compact drive unit. It will be built on a new platform designed for increased rigidity and reduced weight, incorporating a Motion Management System and an advanced electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system.

In the electric vehicle sector, Honda is preparing to launch the Super-ONE, a compact electric hatchback. In Australia, the company has partnered with smart charging provider Ohme to offer home charging solutions for the Super-ONE. While Honda Australia has increased capped-price servicing costs for its petrol and hybrid models by 40 percent, the Super-ONE remains one of the most affordable electric models to maintain in the region.
